Employee Referral Program

DPS is committed to hiring the highest quality team members that represent the students and communities we serve.  We are looking for teachers, specialized service providers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, custodians and more.  Did you know we find some of our top talent through referrals by the people who already work here?  We want to make it easy for you to share opportunities and information with your networks – and to reward you for doing so!

Teachers & SSPs

Earn a bonus for referring any of the following:
- ELA-S Teacher
- Special Education Teacher
- Math Teacher
- Diverse (race or ethnicity) Teacher
- Teacher for the Visually Impaired
- School Nurse
- School Psychologist
- Speech Language Pathologist
- CTE Instructor (new for 2023-24)

Also, earn a bonus by referring the most of ANY Specialized Service Provider or Teacher.

Complete this form for each person you refer prior to the official start date of the candidate.

Each ELA-S teacher, special education teacher, math teacher, diverse (race or ethnicity) teacher, teacher for the visually impaired, speech language pathologist, school nurse or school psychologist (new for 2023-24 CTE Instructor) you refer needs to list you on each of their applications with DPS as the person who referred them.  They need to put down your name on the application, not just friend/family referral.

Any DPS employee!  Don’t forget to fill out the required form and have the candidate you referred list you on their application.

Bonus for referring an ELA-S teacher, special education teacher, math teacher, diverse (race or ethnicity) teacher, teacher for the visually impaired, school nurse or school psychologist that gets hired into DPS:

  • $250 per candidate meeting the above requirements, 1-4 referred and hired
  • $500 per candidate meeting the above requirements, 5-10 referred and hired

The referred candidate must be hired and start with DPS by the first day of school and stay in their position for at least a month.  If a candidate starts mid-year, they must stay in role until the end of the school year.  Payments will be made at the end of October and again at the end of July.  Drawings will be announced on August 1 and November 1.

Important: You as the referring DPS employee must still be employed by DPS at the time of pay out to receive your referral bonus.

Paraprofessionals & Guest Teachers

Earn a bonus by referring the following full-time or part-time, school based:
- ELA (i.e. Spanish, Vietnamese, etc.) Para
- Special Education Para
- Early Childhood Education
- Guest Teachers/Substitutes

Complete this form for each person you refer prior to the start of the 22-23 school year.

Each ELA, Special Education, Early Childhood Education Paraprofessional or Guest Teachers that you refer needs to list you as the person who referred them on each of their applications with DPS.  This means they must include your name on the application, not just “Friend/Family Referral.”

Any DPS employee!  Don’t forget to fill out the required form and have the candidate you refer list you on their applications.

You will earn $125 per referral.

The referred candidate must be hired and start with DPS before the start of the 22-23 school year.

For 2022-23, payments will be made in October and July.

In order to receive this bonus, you must be employed with DPS at the time of payout.

For guest teacher referrals, the new GT must work 15 days in a 3 month period of time in order for the employee to receive the bonus.

Facilities

Earn a bonus by referring the following full-time or part-time positions:
- Part-time Custodian
- Full-time Custodian
- Full-time Custodian Helper
- Custodian Supervisor
- Facilities Manager
- Crew Lead

The referred candidate must list the employee’s name on their application.

Any facilities operations employee that refers a full-time or part-time custodian after November 8th, 2017.

If you refer a custodian and they are hired you will receive the following:

  • $50 per candidate when the referral reaches 30 days of employment

If the custodian continues with DPS after 30 days, you will earn an additional bonus:

  • $100 per candidate after 90 days
  • $150 per candidate after 180 days

Transportation

Earn a bonus by referring someone that fits the qualifications of the Denver Public Schools Transportation Department.

The referred candidate must list the employee’s name on their application.

All employees in the Transportation Department are eligible to receive a referral bonus. (With the exception of: Department Directors, Managers, Employees whose recurring role is recruitment, All HR Employees.)

Once the candidate is hired, you will earn $100 after they complete three consecutive months of work.  After they complete seven months of employment, you will receive another $100.
